Groveton Woman Hospitalized with Serious Injuries from Accident, CORRIGAN, June 7, 2010 - At approximately 3:05 pm on June 7, 2010, a silver 2008 Pontiac G5 driven by Lara-Anne Mitschke, 17, of Groveton was driving on Old Highway 35 and attempted to cross over US-59 North but failed to yield right-of-way to a 1999 Chevy truck driven by Steven Ray Neal, 37, of Lufkin. Neal's truck slammed Mitschke's car broad side. Mitschke's vehicle came to rest in the north-bound lanes of 59 while Neal's vehicle crossed the grassy median and came to rest in the south-bound lanes. Americare Ambulance Service was dispatched to the scene along with the Corrigan Volunteer Fire Department and DPS Troopers Darwon Evans, David Flowers and Chris Stanbery. Mitschke was transported to Lufkin Memorial Hospital by Ambulance with serious injuries while Neal was also transported to Lufkin Memorial by private vehicle with a possible broken arm. Traffic on both sides of 59 was partially blocked during investigation and cleanup. Mitschke was cited for failure to yield right-of-way from a stop sign. Both parties had insurance. A rollback wrecker from Riley Towing recovered both vehicles and they'll be stored in Corrigan.

Steven Ray Neal's 1999 Chevy truck was totaled. DPS Trooper Darwon Evans (right) investigated the accident.
EMS Personnel removed Mitschke through the passenger's side.
