Trooper Darwon Evans inspects 63 year old William Romine's Honda motor scooter as Corporal Terri Mayer and Deputy Byron Dunaway look on.
Motor Scooter Crash, Alcohol Suspected, Driver Flown to Houston, SCENIC LOOP, June 2, 2012 - At around 2:15 am on June 2, 2012, a motor scooter crash was reported off FM-3277.  Corporal Terri Mayer and Deputy Byron Dunaway (both with the Polk County Sheriff's Office) were dispatched to the scene.  They found William Hershel Romine, 63, of Livingston in the 4100 block of FM-3277 with incapacitating head injuries.  According to witnesses, Romine had left the Whirlwind club and was east-bound on 3277 when his red Honda motor scooter left the road to the right.  Romine was ejected and his head struck a mailbox post.  Romine allegedly admitted to having around five beers prior to the accident.  Americare Ambulance Service was summoned along with the Scenic Loop Volunteer Fire Department, Sergeant Christian Schanmier with the Polk County Sheriff's Office, and Trooper Darwon Evans with the Texas Highway Patrol.  Romine was treated at the scene and transported to FM-2457 where a landing zone was set up.  Romine was loaded onto a PHi Air Medical Helicopter and transported to Hermann Hospital in Houston.  Alcohol is suspected and Romine could be facing the charge of driving while intoxicated.  A rollback wrecker from Ken's Towing recovered Romine's motor scooter and it will be stored at Harrison Body Shop in Livingston.  The scene was cleared by 3:45 am.
