Veronica Torres' 8 year old daughter is treated by EMS personnel.
Truck Blows Tire and Rolls Five Times, CORRIGAN, June 1, 2010 - Shortly after 6 pm on June 1, 2010 a gray 2002 Chevy 1500 truck driven by Veronica Torres, 34, of Houston, was north-bound on US-59 a couple of miles north of Corrigan when her driver's side rear tire blew out.  Torres lost control of the truck and began sliding sideways into the grassy median.  According to witnesses, when the vehicle struck the grass it rolled 5 times.  The truck came to rest upright facing south on the south-bound side of 59.  Corrigan Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched to the scene along with Americare Ambulance Service, several deputies from the Polk County Sheriff's Office, Corrigan Police, and DPS Troopers Chris Stanbery and David Flowers.  Both Torres and her 8 year old daughter were safely removed from the truck.  Torres' daughter was transported by ambulance to Livingston Memorial Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.  Torres was physically okay.  According to Trooper Stanbery, the reason Torres and her 8 year old daughter were able to survive the harrowing accident is because TORRES HAD HER SEATBELT FASTENED AND HER DAUGHTER WAS CORRECTLY BUCKLED INTO A CHILD SAFETY SEAT.  One lane of traffic on the south-bound side of 59 was blocked during investigation and cleanup.  Torres had insurance.  A rollback wrecker from Riley Wrecker Service recovered Torres' vehicle and it will be stored in Corrigan.  The scene was cleared by 7 pm.
According to witnesses, the truck rolled 5 times and came to rest upright on the opposite side of the highway.
In the picture above, Torres' truck is circled in red.
Trooper Chris Stanbery stated to PolkCountyToday.com that beause Torres wore a seatbelt, and her daughter was correctly placed in a child's safety seat, they both escaped major injuries or worse.
Torres' vehicle was recovered by Riley Wrecker Service out of Corrigan where it will be stored.
