Fatal Accident at Goodrich Truck Stop, GOODRICH, May 29, 2012 - Shortly before 7 am on May 29, 2012, an 18 wheeler driven by James Dean Stanton, 53, of Oscoda, Michigan was leaving the parking lot of the Goodrich truck stop. Stanton was crossing over the north-bound lanes of 59 to the south-bound lanes and was waiting for traffic to clear when his trailer was slammed by a white 1993 Mazda (driver's name being withheld pending notification of relatives). The Mazda was north-bound on 59 and apparently never saw Stanton's 18 wheeler that completely took up the south-bound lanes. The Mazda struck the trailer and came out on the other side. Americare Ambulance Service was dispatched to the scene along with the Livingston Volunteer Fire Department, Troopers Ramey Bass, Darwon Evans, Sergeant Nita Bowen, and several Deputies from the Polk County Sheriff's Office. Sadly, the driver of the Mazda was killed on impact. Traffic on the north-bound side of 59 was blocked during investigation and cleanup. Justice of the Peace David Johnson performed an inquest at the scene. A first call car from Cochran Funeral Home recovered the body of the 24 year old Goodrich man. A rollback wrecker from Fawbush Body Shop recovered the vehicle and it will be stored in Goodrich. The scene was cleared by 9:30 am.
