1 Vehicle Wreck, 9 Warrants, 3 Arrests, GOODRICH, May 30, 2009 - Shortly before midnight on May 29, 2009 a black 1998 Ford Explorer driven by John Kelly, 32, of Coldsprings was east-bound on FM-1988 West when his vehicle left the road to the right, struck a small tree, and took out a utility pole. Kelly pulled his vehicle around to Pete Garrett Road when his vehicle's steering broke. Immobilized, Kelly and his 2 passengers quickly exited the vehicle and according to witnesses, they tried to flee the scene. Polk County Sheriff's Deputies Jamie Buie and Sergeant Rob Thomas were dispatched to the scene along with DPS Trooper Ramey Bass. Buie and Thomas arrived in time to detain the three would be escapees. The other two passengers were Anna Cornett, 30, and Dominique Dapalma, 54, both of Coldsprings. All three had warrants out for their arrests: Anna Cornett had 3 warrants out for her arrest, John Kelly had 5 warrants out for his arrest, and Dominique Dapalma had a warrant out for his arrest. All three were arrested and taken to Polk County Jail and booked in. Kelly will be issued a citation for unsafe speed. The vehicle sustained moderate damage to the driver's side rear fender and a busted out rear window. The vehicle was recovered by friends and family. The scene was cleared shortly after 1 am.
