Unsafe Turn Causes Rollover, SPRING CREEK, May 22, 2020 - At approximately 12:25 pm on May 22, 2020, a gray 2018 Ford Escape, driven by Laney Alec, 20, of Onalaska, was west-bound on US-190 West. Alec was traveling in the left lane (fast lane). Suddenly, a tan 2005 Chevy Silverado pickup, driven by Charles Herman, Jr., 59, of Shepherd, turned directly in front of Alec. Herman was traveling in the right lane just ahead of Alec and attempted to turn into the parking lot of Bear Arms. Alec's front end clipped Herman's front end causing Alec to lose control. Her vehicle left the pavement to the right, turned sideways and rolled down the embankment coming to rest upright. Herman pulled into the parking lot of Bear Arms. Allegiance Ambulance Service was dispatched to the scene along with Troopers Donny Akers and Nick Hatton with the Texas Highway Patrol. Alec and her infant child (safely strapped into a baby seat) were both removed from her vehicle. The baby was physically okay. Alec was transported by ambulance to CHI Livingston Memorial Hospital with undisclosed injuries. Herman was physically okay. Herman was cited for the unsafe turn. A rollback wrecker from George White & Sons wrecker service recovered Alec's vehicle and it will be stored in Onalaska. Herman's vehicle was driven from the scene.
