Driver Slams Into School Bus, Flown to Houston, LIVINGSTON, May 18, 2017 - At approximately 6:20 am on May 18, 2017, a black 2010 Mitsubishi Lancer, driven by Rocio Rosencrants, 32, of Texas City, was south bound in the 3600 block of US-59 North (less than 2 miles south of the Livingston City Limits). Rosencrants was apparently distracted and failed to notice a Livingston ISD school bus directly in front of her that was coming to a stop when her vehicle slammed into the back of the school bus (driven by Lana Smith, 46, of Trinity). Americare Ambulance Service was dispatched to the scene along with the Livingston Volunteer Fire Department Heavy Rescue Unit, Deputies from the Polk County Sheriff's Office and Troopers Donny Akers, Allen Stanton, and Sergeant Sam Lattner with the Texas Highway Patrol. Rosencrants sustained major injuries including head injuries and was pinned in her vehicle. Nobody else was injured. Firemen used the Jaws-of-Life to cut the roof off of Rosencrants' vehicle and eventually safely remove her. A landing zone was set up a the south-bound side of 59 as a Life Flight helicopter landed and flew Rosencrants to Hermann Hospital in Houston. All traffic on both sides of 59 was blocked during investigation, cleanup, and flight operations. Rosencrants is facing a citation for failure to control speed. A rollback wrecker from LakeView Wrecker recovered Rosencrants' vehicle and it will be stored in Livingston.
