Driver in Critical Condition After Slamming Backwards Into Tree, WAKEFIELD, May 17, 2024 - At approximately 6:50 pm on May 17, 2024, a gray 2002 Infinity sedan was north-bound on US-59 when, for some reason, the driver left the pavement to the left, over corrected right, left the pavement to the right, continued down a steep embankment (sliding out of control) and slammed into a tree backwards. EMS personnel and Corrigan Volunteer Fire Department were dispatched to the scene and were able to get the driver, Etoyle Rigsby, 43, of Corrigan, safely out of his vehicle. Rigsby was rushed by ambulance to Lufkin Memorial Hospital with serious injuries. Trooper Sean Barnes with the Texas Highway Patrol was dispatched to investigate. Rigsby remains hospitalized in critical condition. This accident remains under investigation by the Texas Highway Patrol.
