Major Accident Hospitalizes 5, SAN JACINTO COUNTY, May 12, 2013 - At around 5:20 pm on May 12, 2013, a white 1997 Chevy full size van driven by Gregorio Marcelino Cruz, 35, of Nacogdoches, was north-bound on US-59 just a few miles south of the Trinity River Bridge. Cruz's van suddenly collided with a black 2006 Mercedes E350 driven by Ameer Syed, 49, of Katy. Syed was attmpting to crossover from FM-1127 to the south-bound side of 59. The collision caused Cruz's van to roll. The van had three adults and two small children. Cruz's van came to rest upright in the grassy median between the north and south bound lanes of 59. Syed's vehicle also came to rest in the grass. Americare Ambulance Service, Legacy EMS, and Allegiance Ambulance Service were dispatched to the scene along with the Shepherd Volunteer Fire Department and Troopers Bill Clark and Nickolas Hatton. All five occupants of Cruz's van were transported to Livingston Memorial Hospital with undisclosed injuries. Traffic on both sides of 59 was partially blocked during investigation and cleanup. According to Trooper Clark, Syed was cited for failure to yield right-of-way from a stop sign. Both vehicles were recovered by East Texas Towing and will be stored in Shepherd.
All five occupants of the van were taken to Livingston Memorial Hospital.
The van rolled and came to rest upright in the median.
Trooper Nickolas Hatton assisted in the investigation.
Ameer Syed's 2006 Mercedes Benz E350 was slammed in the rear half.
