Epileptic Seizure Allegedly Causes Accident, GOODRICH, April 30, 2021 - At approximately 7:45 pm on April 30, 2021, a brown 2020 Ford Explorer driven by Michelle Fancher, 45, of Jasper, was north-bound on US-59 when she was struck from behind by a red 2004 Nissan Z driven by Caleb Barnes, 20, of Sugarland. The impact caused both vehicles to leave the pavement to the left and come to rest in a crossover just south of Morgan Creek. What happened was Barnes' 17 year old female passenger had an epileptic seizure, passed out, and her head bumped the steering wheel, jolting Barnes' vehicle causing it to change lanes and strike Francher's vehicle. Allegiance Ambulance Service was dispatched to the scene along with Troopers Corporal Ramey Bass and Chris Cain with the Texas Highway Patrol. The 17 year old passenger was transported to CHI Livingston Memorial Hospital to be checked out. One lane of traffic on the north-bound side of 59 was blocked during investigation and cleanup. Barnes' vehicle was recovered by Ken's Towing and will be stored at Harrison Body Shop in Livingston. Fancher's vehicle was recovered by Kwik Toe of Livingston.
