20 year old James Tyler Southern, of Livingston, was driving this 2016 Ford Taurus when he fell asleep at the wheel and slammed into a tree off FM-2610.
Driver Falls Asleep at the Wheel, Slams Into Tree, ACE, April 18, 2017 - At approximately 12:45 am on April 18, 2017, a gray 2016 Ford Taurus, driven by James Tyler Southern, 20, of Livingston, was west-bound on FM-2610. Southern fell asleep at the wheel. His vehicle left the pavement to the left in the 1858 block of FM-2610 (less than a mile west of US-146) and slammed into a tree. Allegiance Ambulance Service was dispatched to the scene along with the South Polk County Volunteer Fire Department Heavy Rescue Unit and Trooper Chris Cain with the Texas Highway Patrol. Southern was trapped in his vehicle. Firemen used the Jaws-of-Live to cut the driver's side doors off of the vehicle in order to free Southern. Southern was transported by ambulance to CHI Livingston Memorial Hospital with undisclosed injuries. Traffic on 2610 was blocked during investigation and cleanup. A rollback wrecker from Ken's Towing recovered Southern's vehicle and it will be stored at Harrison Body Shop in Livingston.
