Unsafe Speed; Vehicle Hydroplanes Into Oncoming Traffic, CORRIGAN, April 18, 2017 - Shortly after 5 pm on April 17, 2017, a gray 2006 Buick Rainer, driven by Joshua David Koerth, 22, of Katy, was north-bound on US-59 about 2 miles north of Corrigan. Koerth's vehicle began to hydroplane as it left the pavement to the left, went through the center median and entered the south-bound lanes of traffic where it slammed into a south-bound gray Jeep Cherokee, driven by Dominique Dwayne Washington, 19, of Houston. Koerth's vehicle turned over onto it's driver's side and came to rest in the south-bound lanes. Washington's vehicle left the pavement to the right and crashed into the woodline. Allegiance and Americare Ambulance Service were dispatched to the scene along with Corrigan Volunteer Fire Department, Corrigan Police Department, and Troopers Zach Lenderman and Nick Hatton with the Texas Highway Patrol. Koerth's passenger, Camille Denise Carter, 21, of Houston, was transported to CHI Livingston Memorial Hospital with undisclosed injuries (Koerth rode with her). Washington and his passenger were transported to a hospital in Lufkin. Traffic on the south-bound side of 59 was re-routed to the shoulder during investigation and cleanup. Koerth was cited for unsafe speed (Camille Carter was cited for no seatbelt). A rollback wrecker from Riley Wrecker Service out of Corrigan transported Koerth's vehicle from the scene. Washington's vehicle was recovered by a rollback from Clifton Chevrolet out of Corrigan.
