Racing Motorcycles, One Crashes, Driver Flown Out, Alcohol Suspected, SCENIC LOOP, April 17, 2012 - At approximately 8:20 pm on April 17, 2012, a Black 2004 Honda Shadow driven by Lance Dewayne Campbell, 30, of San Antonio, north-bound on FM-3277. According to witnesses, Campbell was racing another motorcycle when he lost control and crashed on the pavement. Campbell was ejected and landed on the pavement a few yards from his motorcycle. The other motorcycle fled the scene and offered no help at all to his buddy. Americare Ambulance Service was dispatched to the scene along with the Scenic Loop Volunteer Fire Department, Corporal Billy Duke with the Polk County Sheriff's Office and Trooper Joe Cole with the Texas Highway Patrol. Campbell sustained injuries to his head and his upper body and was treated at the scene, transported to Blanchard Baptist Church and loaded onto a PHi Air Medical helicopter and flown to Hermann Hospital in Houston. Campbell was wearing shorts, flip flops, no helmet and was allegedly intoxicated (alcohol). All traffic at the scene of the accident was blocked on 3277. Campbell's motorcycle was recovered by friends whose house was nearby. No citations have been issued at this time as the accident remains under investigation. Campbell may be facing charges of driving while intoxicated.
