Roderick Reed's 2008 Yamaha lies in the middle of Mangum Road near Necaise Drive.
Rider Loses Limb in Motorcycle / Pickup Accident, LIVINGSTON, April 12, 2014 - At approximately 6:35 pm on April 11, 2014, a 2008 Yamaha motorcycle driven by Roderick Reed, 43, of Livingston, was east-bound in the 790 block of Mangum Road near Necaise Drive. Evidence at the scene suggests that Reed was traveling at a high rate of speed as he veered into a maroon colored west-bound 1997 Ford F-150 driven by Merissa Carlene Mahon, 21, of Livingston. Reed was apparently distracted and looked backwards. As he looked backwards his motorcycle veered into the rear half of Mahon's truck. The motorcycle slid over 130 feet from the point of impact as Reed was ejected from his bike in the process. During the impact, Reed lost his left leg as it was knocked into the weeds on the south side of the pavement. Mahon's truck spun around facing her opposite direction of travel. Mahon was physically okay. Americare Ambulance Service was dispatched to the scene along with the Scenic Loop Volunteer Fire Department and Sergeant David Ramsey, who was joined by Deputies Adam Norris and Byron Dunaway. Trooper Darwon Evans with the Texas Highway Patrol was dispatched to the investigate. Roderick Reed was loaded onto an ambulance and transported to Livingston Municipal Airport where he was stabilized for flight and loaded onto a PHi Air Medical Helicopter and flown to Hermann Hospital in Houston in critical condition. Both the motorcycle and the pickup were recovered by Ken's Towing and will be stored at Harrison Body Shop in Livingston.
