Lunchtime Accident South of Leggett, NEW WILLARD, April 4, 2008 - Shortly after 12 noon on Friday April 4th 2008, according to witnesses who chose to remain anonymous, a car driven by a man who was allegedly intoxicated hit a truck driving both vehicles off the road. Both vehicles were north bound on 59 in New Willard when the car allegedly struck the pickup. Both vehicles went off the road to the right and down towards the woods. The truck slid to a backwards stop before going into the woods and the car plunged right into the woods. The thick east Texas vegetation nearly completely concealed the car. There were two DPS troopers at the scene and a Polk County Sheriff's Deputy. There was also an ambulance at the scene from Americare Ambulance Service and a rollback wrecker from Fawbush wrecker service. With the heavy rains that showered Polk County Friday afternoon, local law enforcement had their hands full with several accidents in various parts of the county.
