Self Inflicted Wound?: 22 year old Michael Hendrix, of Livingston, was allegedly intoxicated, when (as a passenger) he floored the gas causing the driver to lose control (causing the pickup to roll).
Passenger Who Was Allegedly Intoxicated Causes Rollover, LIVINGSTON, April 3, 2014 - At approximately 1:30 am on April 3, 2014, driver Zachariah Benson, 21, and his passenger, 22 year old Michael Hendrix (both of Livingston) were north-bound on FM-350 north in a black 2008 Chevy Silverado (they were coming from the Texas Tumbleweed Club). According to Benson, his passenger (Michael Hendrix) reached over with his foot and pressed the gas "...he floored it", Benson said. The (not so prudent) action caused Benson to lose control. Benson applied the brakes, but Hendrix was also pressing the gas. The pickup rolled and came to rest up right in the road. Benson pulled the truck around to the south-bound shoulder. Corporal Jacob Chapman and Deputy Adam Norris (both with the Polk County Sheriff's Office) were dispatched to the scene. They summoned an ambulance from Americare Ambulance Service. Additionally, Trooper Allen Stanton with the Texas Highway Patrol was dispatched to investigate. The rollover partially caved in the passenger's side of the truck where Hendrix was sitting causing Hendrix to sustain a broken arm. Hendrix screamed in pain as medical personnel carefully removed him from the truck and loaded him onto an ambulance to be transported to Livingston Memorial Hospital. According to Benson, they were coming from the Texas Tumbleweed Club and he was the designated driver. Trooper Stanton stated that so far, no citations have been issued and the accident remains under investigation. Benson's vehicle was recovered by Fawbush Wrecker Service and will be stored in Goodrich.
