51 year old Oscar Rodriguez of Houston sits in his pickup after he crashed off FM-1988 at around 3 am.
Driver Crashes Pickup, Arrested for DWI, SWARTWOUT, March 30, 2013 - At approximately 3 am on March 30, 2013, a tan 2002 GMC pickup driven by Oscar Rodriguez, 51, of Houston, was east-bound on FM-1988 West when his truck left the road to the right. Rodriguez over-corrected to the left and left the road to the left. His pickup slid through the grass, turned on it's side, and finally landed upright when it struck a barbed wire fence. Americare Ambulance Service was dispatched to the scene along with Deputy Adam Norris with the Polk County Sheriff's Office. Nobody was injured. Trooper Allen Stanton with the Texas Highway Patrol was dispatched to investigate. Oscar Rodriguez was placed under arrest for driving while initoxicated. Rodriguez's passenger (his brother, Jimmy Rodriguez) was placed under arrest and charged with public intoxication. Both were driven to Polk County Jail and booked in. A rollback wrecker from Harwood Wrecker Service recovered Rogriguez's vehicle and it will be stored at 101 Harwood Drive in Livingston. The scene was cleared by 5 am.
Rodriguez appeared too intoxicated to be given a field sobriety test and was placed under arrest for driving while intoxicated.
Rodriguez' brother (Jimmy) was arrested for public intoxication.
A t-post impaled the bed of the truck when Rodriguez's pickup landed upright on the post.
Rodriguez's vehicle was recovered by Big Jim Harwood.
