Livingston Woman Hospitalized in Accident, LIVINGSTON, March 24, 2010 - Shortly after 4 pm on March 23, 2010, a green Ford F-150 driven by Betty Turner Smith, 70, of Livingston was sitting at a stop sign on FM-350 South. The stop sign was being held up by a construction worker as traffic was regulated and directed by workers who are performing road construction. Turner was slammed from behind by a green 1997 Ford Escort driven by Olen Joseph Pool, 21, of Livingston. The accident was first spotted by Livingston Police Officer Marty Drake who was on his way home from work. Drake radioed Polk County Dispatch. Americare Ambulance Service was dispatched to the scene along DPS Troopers Ramey Bass and Donny Akers. Betty Smith was treated at the scene and transported to Livingston Memorial Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Traffic was partially blocked during investigation and cleanup. Pool was issued a citation for failure to control speed. His vehicle sustained heavy front end damage and was recovered by Harwood Wrecker Service and it will be stored at 101 Harwood Drive in Livingston. Both parties had insurance. Smith's vehicle sustained mild damage and was still drivable and was driven away from the scene by a friend. The scene was cleared before 5 pm.
Olen Pool slammed into the back of a Ford pickup.
Betty Smith's truck sustained only light damage.
Smith was treated at the scene and transported to Livingston Memorial Hospital.
