5 Girls Hurt, 2 Seriously in 4 Wheeler Accident, HOLIDAY LAKE ESTATES, March 23, 2009 - At approximately 6:30 pm on March 23, 2009, a green Yamaha Kodiak 4 x 4 being ridden by 5 juvenile girls from and in the subdivision of Holiday Lake Estates were less than a mile from Drew's Landing road and cutting across someone's lawn when the driver cut the wheels sharply to avoid hitting a dog. The driver lost control of the 4 wheeler and it rolled. All five kids were hurt, 2 seriously. Two ambulances from Lone Star EMS arrived followed by 1 ambulance from Americare Ambulance Service. Polk County Sheriff's Deputy Lee Rogers, and Holiday Lake Estates Fire Chief, Jeff Grubbs were the first emergency responders on the scene. Prior to the arrival of EMS personnel, friends and family covered 2 of the girls with blankets and tried to keep them comfortable. DPS Trooper Kevin Burman was also dispatched to the scene to conduct an investigation. All 5 of the girls were treated at the scene by EMS personnel, and 2 were transported to Livingston Memorial Hospital in serious but stable condition. According to one of the girl's father, he said he was in the kitchen cooking and the girls were in the back yard on the 4 wheeler. The next thing he knew, he was informed of the accident that was less than a mile from his house. The ages of the girls ranged in age from 7 to 13. The two that were hospitalized were 10 and 11 years old. The scene was cleared by 7:30 pm.
