Alcohol Suspected in Major Accident, BEECH CREEK, March 21, 2015 - At approximately midnight on March 21, 2015, a red 2013 Toyota Corolla, driven by Jody Kayser, 27, of Willis, was east-bound on US-190 East. Kayser's vehicle was suddenly clipped by a west-bound 2001 Dodge Ram 3500 driven by Joseph Duff, 19, of Livingston. Duff's vehicle ripped the siding off the driver's side of Kayser's vehicle and continued drifting left. Duff's pickup left the pavement on the east-bound side, rolled up an embankment and slammed into a small group of pine trees. Americare Ambulance Service was dispatched to the scene along with the Livingston Volunteer Fire Department Heavy Rescue Unit, Deputies Edward Thomas and Victor White with the Polk County Sheriff's Office and Trooper Chad Seamans with the Texas Highway Patrol. Kayser was transported by ambulance to CHI Livingston Memorial Hospital with minor injuries. Duff sustained serious injuries and was also transported by ambulance to CHI Livingston. Traffic on the east-bound side of 190 was partially blocked during investigation and cleanup. A cooler loaded with iced down beer was found in Duff's truck and there was a case of beer laying of the pavement near Duff's pickup. There was also a shotgun and a rifle found in Duff's vehicle. According to Trooper Seamans, alcohol is suspected. Duff could be facing multiple alcohol related charges. The accident remains under investigation by the Texas Highway Patrol. Duff's vehicle was recovered by Ken's Towing and will be stored at Harrison Body Shop in Livingston. Kayser's vehicle was recovered by Fawbush Body Shop and will be stored in Goodrich.
Duff's pickup crossed into the east-bound lanes and clipped the front end of this 2013 Toyota Corolla and ripped the side off the car.
Joseph Duff sustained serious injuries and was transported by ambulance to CHI Livingston Memorial Hospital.
As Duff's pickup was pulled from the trees, the seriousness of the collision became more clear.
