Captain Phillip Griffin with the Holiday Lake Estates Fire Department was the first emergency responder on the scene and radioed the Sheriff's Office.
Baytown Woman Hospitalized in Accident, GOODRICH, March 18, 2010 - Shortly before 3 pm on March 18, 2010 a blue 2002 Saturn sedan driven by Beverly Kegler, 38, of Baytown, was south bound at FM-2665 at FM-1988 by the new Highway 59 overpass. Kegler failed to yield right-of-way to a 2003 Mack Truck 18 wheeler tanker driven by Danny Ray Cook, 55, of Hardin. Cook's truck slammed into Kegler's front driver's side fender and knocked the car about face facing north where it came to rest in the middle of the intersection, the truck pulled up about 100 feed on the overpass and stopped. Americare Ambulance Service was dispatched to the scene along with Polk County Sheriff's Deputy Darren Crow and DPS Trooper David Flowers. Kegler was carefully removed from her vehicle and treated at the scene by EMS personnel before being transported to Livingston Memorial Hospital by ambulance. Traffic was not blocked but re-routed as the accident was being investigated and cleared. Both parties had insurance. Kegler was issued a citation for failure to yield right-of-way. A rollback wrecker from LakeView Service recovered Kegler's vehicle while the 18 wheeler remained on the scene and was being sent for by company personnel. The scene was cleared by 4 pm.
Beverly Kegler of Baytown failed to yield right of way. The collision spun her 2002 Saturn around facing the opposite direction of her travel.
Danny Ray Cook's tanker was empty. Cook drove up onto the overpass and out of the scene of the accident. He only got one flat tire.
Beverly Kegler was loaded onto an ambulance and taken to Livingston Memorial Hospital with undisclosed injuries.
