Fatal Accident Claims One, GOODRICH, March 17, 2010 - At approximately 8:55 pm on March 16, 2010, a silver 2005 Saturn ION driven by Joe Don Beasley, 61, of Houston was south-bound on US-59 in Goodrich near FM-1988. Beasley's vehicle left the road to the left, crossed the median and into oncoming traffic in the north-bound lanes of 59. Beasley's vehicle was broadsided by a white 1998 Ford Taurus driven by James Courtney Pierce, 31, of Shepherd. Both vehicles came to rest in the right lane of 59 North. Americare Ambulance Service was dispatched to the scene along with units from the Livingston Volunteer Fire Department, Deputy David Ramsey, and DPS Trooper Donny Akers. Firemen from the Heavy Rescue Unit used the jaws-of-life to remove Beasley from his car. All traffic in the north-bound lanes of traffic was blocked during investigation and cleanup. Beasley was loaded onto an ambulance and rushed to Livingston Memorial Hospital in critical condition. Beasley was pronounced dead by Doctors at 9:47 pm. Beasley's 3 passengers and James Pierce were all transported to Livingston Memorial with non-life threatening injuries. A rollback wrecker from Ken's Towing recovered Pierce's vehicle and it will be stored at Harrison Body Shop in Livingston while Beasley's vehicle was recovered by a rollback wrecker from Harwood Wrecker Service and it will be stored at 101 Harwood Drive in Livingston. Pierce was issued citations for no insurance, driving with a suspended license, and expired registration. The scene was cleared by 10:30 pm.
Both vehicles came to rest in the right lane of 59 north.
