Corporal Ramey Bass with the Texas Highway Patrol said the accident is still under investigation.
Husband and Wife Hospitalized in Accident, GOODRICH, February 4, 2015 - At approximately 4:40 am on February 4, 2015, a black Nissan 350Z, driven by Otis Johnson, 68, of Livingston, was west bound on FM-1988 East (about a mile east of US-59). According to Johnson, he said that there was mud on the pavement and it caused him to lose control of his vehicle. Johnson's vehicle left the pavement to the left and slid backwards into a ditch. A short time later Johnson's wife, Janie Johnson pulled up to the scene to check on her husband. Janie parked her pickup (white GMC Sierra) in the west-bound lane of 1988 and was slammed from behind by a west-bound 2015 Chevy 3500 (pulling a trailer) driven by Sammy Lovell, 55, of Kennard. The impact crushed the front end of Lovell's truck and caused heavy damage to the rear end of Janie Johnson's truck. Americare Ambulance Service was dispatched to the scene along with Deputies from the Polk County Sheriff's Office and Corporal Ramey Bass and Trooper Chris Cain (both with the Texas Highway Patrol). Additionally, the Goodrich Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched. Both Otis Johnson and his wife, Janie, were transported by ambulance to CHI Livingston Memorial Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Sammy Lovell was physically okay. All traffic on 1988 East was blocked during investigation and cleanup. According to Corporal Bass, no citations have been issued and the accident is still under investigation. Otis Johnson's vehicle was recovered by Ken's Towing and will be stored at Harrison Body Shop in Livingston. Janie Johnson's vehicle was recovered by Fawbush Wrecker and will be stored in Goodrich, and Sammy Lovell's vehicle was recovered by LakeView Wrecker and will be stored at Bounds Autoplex in Livingston.
