Emergency personnel work to free 40 year old Rafael Fabella from his 1991 Honda.
Major Accident on US-59, LIVINGSTON, February 27, 2012 - At approximately 9 pm on February 26, 2012, a red 1991 Honda driven by Rafael Fabella, 40, of Livingston, was south-bound on US-59 in Livingston when his car veered to the right. Fabella's vehicle struck an 18 wheeler driven by Jan Ziomek, 56, of Corpus Christi. The impact spun Fabella's vehicle around causing his vehicle to impact the rear tires of the 18 wheeler. Ziomek's 18 wheeler left the road to the right dragging Fabella's vehicle. The locked up vehicles came to rest on the right side of the pavement with Fabella's vehicle under the 18 wheeler. Americare Ambulance Service was dispatched to the scene along with the Livingston Volunteer Fire Department Heavy Rescue Unit and Officer Adam Williford and Sergeant Scott Paske with the Livingston Police Department. Fabella was removed from his vehicle by emergency personnel and driven by ambulance to Livingston Memorial Hospital where he was loaded onto a PHi Air Medical Helicopter and flown to Hermann Hospital in Houston. Fabella sustained major head injuries. Jan Ziomek was physically okay. One lane of the south-bound side of 59 was blocked during investigation and cleanup. Both parties had insurance. A rollback wrecker from Harwood Wrecker Service recovered Fabella's vehicle and it will be stored at 101 Harwood Drive in Livingston. The scene was cleared by 11 pm.
