Driver Slams Into Tree, SEGNO, February 24, 2024 - At approximately 11:20 am on February 24, 2024, the driver of a silver 2015 Ford Expedition was east-bound on FM-943 when he left the pavement to the left and struck a tree near the intersection of 943 and FM-1276. The driver, Leonard Whiting, 65, of Livingston, was entrapped. Allegiance Ambulance Service was dispatched to the scene along with the Livingston Volunteer Fire Department Heavy Rescue Unit, Sergeant Jason Paski and Deputy Chrissy McCarty with the Polk County Sheriff's Office, and Corporal Ramey Bass with the Texas Highway Patrol. Emergency personnel were able to carefully remove Whiting from his vehicle. Whiting was transported by ambulance to CHI Livingston Memorial Hospital with undisclosed injuries. Traffic was not blocked during investigation and cleanup. It is not yet known why Whiting left the pavement (possibly sleepy, or traveling too fast in a curve). The accident remains under investigation by the Texas Highway Patrol. Whiting's vehicle was recovered by Kwik Tow out of Livingston.
