Driver Collides With 18 Wheeler, Alcohol and Pills Suspected, LIVINGSTON, February 21, 2012 - At approximately 3:50 pm on February 21, 2012, a white 1999 Jeep Cherokee driven by Delia Perry Atkinson, 51, of Goodrich pulled out of the parking lot of the Livingston Inn Motel and failed to yield to an oncoming north-bound 18 wheeler. Atkinson's vehicle slammed into the passenger's side fuel tank of the 18 wheeler. The rear tires of the truck ripped the front end off of Atkinson's vehicle. Atkinson's vehicle came to rest in the right lane of the north-bound side of 59. The 18 wheeler pulled over to the shoulder a short distance north of Atkinson. Americare Ambulance Service was dispatched to the scene along with Troopers Darwon Evans and Ramey Bass with the Texas Highway Patrol. Atkinson was not injured. Delia Atkinson was suspected of being intoxicated. Trooper Evans conducted a field sobriety test and it was determined that Atkinson was in fact intoxicated on alcohol and anti-depressants. Evans placed Atkinson under arrest for driving while intoxicated. Traffic was partially blocked during investigation and cleanup. A rollback wrecker from LakeView Wrecker Service recovered Atkinson's vehicle and it will be stored in Livingston.
