Reckless Driver Strikes Other Vehicle Then Rolls, NEW WILLARD, February 17, 2024 - At approximately 7:55 pm on February 17, 2024, a white 2015 Jeep Cherokee, driven by Loretta Ann Glenn, 68, of Moscow, was north-bound on US-59 when she was struck from behind by a white Toyota Camry driven by Vernon Charles, 31, of Willis. Charles was driving recklessly (possible medical condition) and struck Glenn's vehicle from behind near the north end of Loop 116. The collision caused Charles to lose control and leave the pavement to the right. Charles' car rolled and came to rest on its driver's side against a tree at the edge of the woodline. Glenn pulled into the paved center median. Allegiance Ambulance Service was dispatched to the scene along with a Deputy from the Polk County Sheriff's Office and Trooper Sean Barnes with the Texas Highway Patrol. Charles was transported by ambulance to CHI Livingston Memorial Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Glenn was physically okay. No citations have been issued at this time and the accident remains under investigation by the Texas Highway Patrol. Glenn's vehicle was recovered by LakeView Wrecker and will be stored in Livingston while Charles' vehicle was recovered by Dan's Towing and will also be stored in Livingston.
31 year old Vernon Charles, of Willis, was driving this Toyota Camry erratically when he struck another vehicle from behind, lost control, then rolled down an embankment.
Charles struck this 2015 Jeep Cherokee driven by 68 year old Loretta Ann Glenn, of Moscow.
Trooper Sean Barnes with the Texas Highway Patrol is investigating this accident.
