68 year old Freddie Barnes, Jr., of Lufkin, was driving this 2014 Nissan Sentra.
Major Accident Claims 1 Life, Alcohol Suspected, EAST POLK COUNTY, February 15, 2018 - Shortly before 8 pm on February 14, 2018, a tan 2007 Toyota Camry, driven by Micayla Lynette Alec, 23, of Livingston, was south-bound on FM-2500 about a mile south of FM-942. Alec allegedly entered a curve too fast and began to slide. Her vehicle turned sideways as her front end crossed the center line. Her front passenger's side fender was slammed by a north-bound blue 2014 Nissan Sentra, driven by Freddie Barnes, Jr. 68, of Lufkin. Barnes' vehicle left the pavement and came to rest at the woodline off the north-bound side. Alec's vehicle slid off the pavement on the south-bound side and came to rest partially on the pavement. Americare and Allegiance Ambulance Services were dispatched to the scene along with the Alabama Coushatta and Livingston Volunteer Fire Departments, Deputies Austin McCracken, Corporal Javier Segura, The Alabama Coushatta Police Department, and Troopers Colton McQuilkin, John Allen, Donny Akers, Chris Cain and Zach Lenderman with the Texas Highway Patrol. Barnes and his two passengers were transported by ambulance to CHI Livingston Memorial Hospital (Barnes' injuries were critical). Alec was also transported by ambulance to CHI with undisclosed injuries. Sadly, Barnes passed away shortly after his arrival at the Livingston Emergency Room. All traffic on 2500 was blocked during investigation and cleanup. Alec had a smell of alcohol and is suspected of intoxication. She may be facing the charge of intoxication manslaughter. Both vehicles were recovered by LakeView Towing and will be stored in Livingston. This accident remains under investigation by the Texas Highway Patrol.

Barnes was rushed to CHI Livingston Memorial Hospital where he passed away shortly after arrival.
Alec's front end was severed from her vehicle.
