Driver Killed in South Polk County, SCHWAB CITY, January 27, 2010 - At approximately 2:15 pm on January 27, 2010, a red 1999 Chevy S-10 driven by John Burton Edwards, 56, of Onalaska was north-bound on US-146 when his vehicle left the road to the right, Edwards over-corrected when he cut his wheels left and slid out of control and crossed over to the other side of 146 leaving the road. His vehicle turned on its side and slid into a tree while on its side. The roof of the truck impacted the tree and caved in killing Edwards on impact. The truck came to rest upright facing north. Legacy EMS was dispatched to the scene along with Deputies from the Polk County Sheriff's Office, the Livingston Volunteer Fire Department Heavy Rescue Unit, and a surplus of DPS Troopers including Trooper Ramey Bass. Edwards had a passenger (Daughter-in-law Wanda Edwards, 29) who was trapped in the vehicle. Wanda Edwards was transported to Livingston Memorial Hospital by ambulance with undisclosed injuries. Justice of the Peace Precinct 2 David Johnson performed and inquest at the scene. A first call car from Cochran's Funeral Home transported John Edwards away from the scene. Traffic was not blocked during investigation and cleanup.
