Unsafe Pass Leads to Major Accident, MIDWAY, January 21, 2018 - At approximately 6 pm on January 21, 2018, a white 2014 Kia Soul, driven by Janaysia Leas, 21, of Harker Heights, was east-bound on US-190 East (less that a mile from the County Line). Leas attempted to pass a vehicle in front of her and apparently failed to notice a west-bound black 2001 Ford F-150, driven by James Dobbins, 53, of Colmesneil. Dobbins and Leas both attempted to avoid the collision and both cut toward the shoulder on the west-bound side and collided. Leas' vehicle impacted the passenger side (cab) of Dobbins' pickup. Dobbins' pickup came to rest in the middle of 190, while Leas' vehicle came to rest in the grass on the west-bound side. Americare Ambulance Service was dispatched to the scene along with the Alabama Coushatta Volunteer Fire Department, Alabama Coushatta Police Department, Sergeant Byron Dunaway with the Polk County Sheriff's Office and Trooper Ashlee White with the Texas Highway Patrol. Leas, Dobbins, and Dobbins' six year old Daughter were all transported by ambulance to CHI Livingston Memorial Hospital with undisclosed injuries. Leas is reportedly in her third trimester of pregnancy. All traffic on 190 was blocked during investigation and cleanup. Leas is facing a citation for passing while unsafe (she attempted to pass in a no passing zone). Leas' vehicle was recovered by a rollback wrecker from Fawbush Wrecker Service and will be stored in Goodrich. Dobbins' vehicle was recovered by A1 Wrecker Service out of Woodville.
