18 Wheeler / Van Accident Hospitalizes Van Driver, SCHWAB CITY, January 8, 2024 - At approximately 2:50 pm on January 8, 2024, a gray 2023 Chevy Traverse minivan, driven by Harvey Bailey, 77, of Livingston, was south-bound on US-146. Bailey slowed and was waiting to make a left turn onto Sunny Drive (Forest Springs Subdivision). Just as Bailey was turning, an 18 wheeler logging truck, driven by Arnold Thompson, 61, of Houston was coming up behind him too fast. Thompson swerved left to avoid impacting Bailey's vehicle, but Bailey had just started his turn. Thompson did impact Bailey as both vehicles left the pavement to the left and went into the trees. Allegiance Ambulance Service was dispatched to the scene along with the Holiday Lake Estates, and Livingston Volunteer Fire Departments and Trooper Johnny Wilkerson with the Texas Highway Patrol. Bailey was carefully removed from his vehicle by EMS personnel and transported to CHI Livingston Memorial Hospital with undisclosed injuries. Thompson was physically okay. Traffic was not blocked during investigation and cleanup. An investigation is underway, but no citations have been issued yet. Thompson's 18 wheeler was recovered by Smith Towing out of Livingston, while Bailey's vehicle was recovered by Fawbush Wrecker out of Goodrich.
Special thank you: Scottie with Country Boy Towing
Recent rain caused Thompson's loaded 18 wheeler to dig deep into the mud.
