Driver Falls Asleep, Drives Into Woods, SCHWAB CITY, January 7, 2013 - Shortly after 8 am on January 7, 2013, a gray 2003 Ford Taurus driven by Carol Cunningham, 61, of Goodrich, was south-bound on US-146.  Cunningham allegedly fell asleep at the wheel and left the road to the left.  Her vehicle drove into the woodline across the street from Sunny Drive (subdivision of Forest Springs).  Cunningham was trapped in her vehicle by trees and underbrush.  Americare Ambulance Service was dispatched to the scene along with the South Polk County and Livingston Volunteer Fire Departments, Deputies Terri Mayer and Terry Valka with the Sheriff's Office and Trooper Kevin Burman with the Texas Highway Patrol.  Firemen used a chainsaw to remove the trees from the vehicle in order to gain access to the Cunningham.  Cunningham was removed from her vehicle and transported to Livingston Memorial Hospital with undisclosed injuries.  Traffic was not blocked during investigation and cleanup.  No citations were issued.  A rollback wrecker from Harwood Bros. Wrecker Service recovered Cunningham's vehicle and it will be stored at 101 Harwood Drive in Livingston.  The scene was cleared by 9 am.
