Major Accident in Livingston = Life Flight X 2, LIVINGSTON, January 2, 2009 - Shortly after 1 pm on January 2, 2009 a green 1993 Geo Prizm driven by Jessie Johnson, 19, of Ace, was north-bound on Highway 146 and, according to witnesses, failed to stop at a stop sign at 146 and Business 59 in Livingston. Johnson attempted to cross 59 and pulled directly in front of a brown 2002 Ford F-350 truck pulling a 30 foot travel trailer and was south-bound on 59. The truck (driven by Dennis Lunday, 55, of Laporte) broad-sided Johnson's vehicle and pushed it into the weeds on the west side of Business 59. Livingston Police were dispatched to the scene, in addition to Americare Ambulance Service and the Livingston Volunteer Fire Department. The passenger's side of Johnson's vehicle was crushed and both Johnson, and her passenger, Larry Cooksey, 21, of Ace were trapped in their vehicle. Firemen utilized the jaws of life to cut the roof from the vehicle in order to free Johnson and Cooksey. Life Flight was summoned for both Johnson and Cooksey. Johnson was removed first, and then Cooksey. Cooksey was treated at the scene and then loaded onto a PHI Helicopter and transported to Houston with life threatening injuries. A short time later another PHI Helicopter arrived and transported Johnson to Houston with serious injuries. The driver of the truck, Dennis Lunday was physically okay, and his wife was transported to Livingston Memorial Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Both south-bound lanes of business 59 were blocked as the accident was being investigated and cleared, and all traffic was blocked during life-flight operations. Both parties had insurance and no citations have yet been issued as the cause for the accident is under investigation. The travel trailer was towed by Ken's Towing, and the vehicles were towed by Fawbush wrecker service. The scene was cleared and traffic fully flowing by 3 pm.
