Hazel McGowen (left) and Nancy M. Simmons have a combined 84 years of real world nursing experience.
Abundant Light of Livingston, Incorporated Offers People a Shot at a Better Life, LIVINGSTON, June 4, 2008 - "Help people who need help".  That's how Nancy M. Simmons likes to say it.  Nancy is a retired Registered Nurse who practiced nursing for 54 years and is now reaching out to people whom she thinks she can help by furthering their education.   Welcome to Abundant Light of Livingston, Incorporated (ALLI).  ALLI are classes where people can study in an accredited course and learn to be a nurses assistant.  The course is a 96 clock hour course and upon completion, the students will get to take a state exam and graduate to be CNAs (Certified Nursing Assistants).  "We also teach our students to be professionals in our Professionalism Class", Simmons says smiling.  In Professionalism Class, students learn how to conduct themselves in a professional environment.  "The whole course is rewarding in more ways than just learning a trade and being gainfully employed, it's also rewarding in that, students can become independent and feel better about themselves and where they are in life".  Also teaching in the classes is Hazel McGowen who is a LVN who has 30 years experience in nursing.  The program is new (about a week old) and so far has 19 motivated students who are ready to advance in life.  According to Simmons, this course will get them gainfully employed making excellent wages and serve as a springboard for the students to continue to progress, and perhaps, continue to study after they become CNAs and become nurses and beyond.  ALLI also provides job placement assistance.  The course costs $600 and ALLI will work with students to get it paid.  The whole package looks like a pretty sweet deal.  The idea of this program, according to Simmons, was the vision of Pastor Kenneth Darden of Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church in Livingston.  ALLI will be offering other courses primarily directed at the health care field, and in the future will be offering courses in even other fields.
