2 Flown to Houston From Major Accident, GOODRICH, December 17, 2009 - At approximately 6:55 pm on December 17, 2009, a black 2002 Pontiac Sunfire driven by Lolita Reyes, 45, of Lufkin was south-bound on US-59 in Goodrich. Reyes' vehicle left the road to the left into the grassy, muddy median and started sliding sideways and then rolled coming to rest upside down in the grass between the north and south-bound lanes near Loop 393. Goodrich Volunteer Fire Department led by Chief Kenneth Hambrick were the first emergency personnel on the scene followed by Americare Ambulance Service, and Deputies Vance Berry and Keith Franklin, and DPS Trooper David Morris and Kevin Burman. Chief Hambrick and his men helped to get the driver and her husband and 3 children from the vehicle. EMS Personnel treated all the victims at the scene. 2 of the accident victims, Reyes and her 14 year old son sustained serious injuries and were transported to Hermann Hospital in Houston by 2 different helicopters. The other three victims were transported to Livingston Memorial Hospital by ambulance. One lane to traffic on the north-bound side was blocked during investigation and cleanup. According to Trooper Morris, Reyes was driving with a suspended license and insurance on her vehicle is un-confirmed and she could possibly be facing multiple citations. A rollback wrecker from Lakeview Wrecker Service recovered Reyes' vehicle. Morris stated that the cause of the accident remains under investigation. The scene was cleared before 8:30 pm.
