2 Hospitalized in Accident, MOSCOW, September 21, 2020 - At approximately 10:40 am on September 21, 2020, a red, 2018 Chevy Cruze, driven by Francess Matta, 20, of San Antonio, was south-bound on US-59. As Matta was passing Rock Island road (Rock Island Road is directly across the highway from FM-350), a red 1997 Chevy Blazer, driven by Charles Butt, 72, of Onalaska, pulled off of Rock Island Road and into the south-bound lanes, but failed to yield to Matta. Matta's vehicle impacted Butt's vehicle. Matta's vehicle came to rest on the south-bound shoulder, while Butt's vehicle came to rest on the pavement of the south-bound side. Allegiance Ambulance Service was dispatched to the scene along with Corporal Javier Segura with the Polk County Sheriff's Office and Troopers Allen Stanton and Corporal Ramey Bass with the Texas Highway Patrol. Butt and his wife were transported by ambulance to CHI Livingston Memorial Hospital in Livingston. Matta was physically okay. Butt was cited for failure to yield to oncoming traffic. Both vehicles were recovered by Clifton Chevrolet out of Corrigan and will be stored in Corrigan.
