Glancing Head On Collision, 2 Hospitalized, BEACH CREEK, June 30, 2022 - At approximately 7:16 am on June 30, 2022, a maroon 2017 Buick Enclave, driven by Sharon Phelps, 57, of Manvel, was south-bound on FM-3126. Phelps was slowing to make a left turn when a north-bound white 2020 Chevy Colorado pickup, driven by Alek Collins, 24, of Livingston, crossed the center line and impacted Phelps' vehicle (glancing head on collision next to Cedar Lake Drive). The impact caused Phelps' vehicle to leave the pavement to the right and slide backwards down an embankment facing her opposite direction of travel, while Collins' vehicle spun around facing north (his opposite direction of travel). Allegiance Ambulance Service was dispatched to the scene along with the Livingston Volunteer Fire Department Heavy Rescue Unit, and Trooper Cotye Lowrie with the Texas Highway Patrol. Phelps was trapped in her vehicle. Firemen used the Jaws-of-Life to cut her door off and carefully remove her from her vehicle. Collins walked out of his vehicle and laid down in the grass on the north-bound side of 3126. Both Phelps and Collins were transported by ambulance to CHI Livingston Memorial Hospital. All traffic on 3126 was blocked during investigation and cleanup. Collins was cited for failure to control speed. The vehicles were recovered by LakeView Wrecker and Kwik Tow, both out of Livingston.
